The Syrian regime may have agreed to dismantle military posts and sand berms inside the Lebanese border, but their human berms and militias in other parts of the country are still very active. Hizbullah, the Aounists and their subjects today flocked to the streets of our city to call for the government's resignation. Their aim is nothing short of putting the country back into Syria's orbit.
Considering that the government's main fault has been in not standing up to Syria's allies, and in succumbing to their pressure through "dialogue" and what have you, it is despicable that the parties who have manipulated and paralysed the cabinet for so long have moved to finish off the very institution they successfully weakened and emasculated over the past year.
Do not be fooled by the slogans. Some of the subjects who answered hunger calls are right in voicing their frustration, but I doubt any of them knows or understands the economic reform plan, which is still being developed, and is sadly awaiting the approval of the same parties who called for this protest.
Today we witnessed a massive assault by the proxy army of Syria's Dark Lord against Lebanon. The ring of power is tempting, and the towers of Rabieh and Dahyieh have united in their destructive lust for control. The weapon now is freedom of speech, which they use to further their draconian goals. Their subjects may not know it, for they have fallen under a great spell, but only one benefits from their actions: Bashar Assad.
The Dark Lord of Damascus smiled today. For his allies are growing, and the people of Lebanon are weakened. The country's last bastion, the city of Beirut, is besieged by its own.
Permit me to say this again. Our only hope is in marching against the tower of evil in Damascus. We need to unite with the Syrian opposition, wherever and whatever it is. A free Lebanon cannot exist with the regime next door launching assault after assault on us.
But before we march against the dark tower, there are two towers to destroy in Lebanon.
Today, Lebanon looked very ugly.
