The huge explosion that ripped through an Ashrafieh neighborhood may have targeted Wissam al-Hassan, the ISF's Information Branch chief, media reports are saying.
There are conflicting reports: some claim he was severely injured, and others that he was killed.
Al-Hassan played a major role in the Hariri investigation. If true, Hizbullah will not be sorry to see him go, to say the least.
Update: MTV reports that he was killed. This will have wide repercussions in the country. Al-Hassan is Hariri's man in the ISF, and was involved in the arrest of former minister Michel Samaha, who was caught planning attacks on behalf of the Assad regime.
Update 2. And Hariri accuses Assad of killing al-Hassan. Junblatt: al-Hassan killing revenge for Samaha arrest. Meanwhile, folks are blocking roads-- because this was proven to make Lebanese feel better in tough times.
