The Hizbullah state is coming

It should be no secret that the delay in completing (or initiating) the rebirth of the Lebanese state is contributing to the acceleration of the creation of the Hizbullah state. It’s ironic that 60 years after the creation of Israel, Hizbullah, a “resistance” militia, is inching closer to creating its own independent religious entity. Those who subscribe to the notion that Zionists want to divide the region into mini-religious states, need only look at the actions of Hizbullah, which are creating what Israel couldn’t through multiple invasions and past alliances with local parties.

I don’t think Hizbullah is creating a mini state as much as I think it is trying to take over the current state. A canton is not viable in the long term.  During the Syrian era, such a project would have been checked by the Assad regime. The vacuum that the regime left behind allowed Hizbullah to spread its wings, something that the Syrian regime was happy to use as an argument for returning to Lebanon. Unfortunately for Bashar, however, the path that his regime drew for both countries could eventually lead to the Iranian regime swallowing both Lebanon and Syria.

One hopes the escalation of the campaign against Hizbullah and Iran by Walid Jumblatt and March 14 stems from the realization that soon, it will be too late to halt the advance of the Hizbullah state. An extensive communications network links once disconnected areas of Lebanon is fully functional. Reports keep coming in of land purchases and construction of residential projects and towns, allegedly to create a contiguous Shia area. Tunnels are being dug, military bases were built. Hizbullah has been able to infiltrate the various security and military agencies, and have replaced the Syrians in terms of influence. The Lebanese military has been undermined and officers now think twice before arresting a Hizbullah-affiliated rioter. The Hizbullah areas have becomes havens for terrorists and killers, who use it as a launching pad for targeting March 14 figures.

March 14 today accused the Iranian ambassador of overseeing the Hizbullah project to build a “state within a state”. I think the term should have been "replacing the current state”.

The ruling March 14 coalition warned that Hizbullah's scheme which is aimed at setting up a state within the state has reached a "decisive stage."

"After occupying downtown (Beirut) and crippling the economic cycle and government operation; and after cleaning up the area under their influence of any legitimate Lebanese security presence, it (Hizbullah) shifted to a new stage by directing a strong blow to the government through its attempt to place the airport under its direct security control together with setting up a private communication network which links the capital with the rest of Lebanon all the way to Syria," said a statement issued by the March 14 general secretariat.

The statement accused Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Reza Shibani of becoming a "high commissioner" entrusted with overseeing the creation of the Hizbullah state.

March 14 said "these developments require speedy steps to salvage the country, including adherence to the Taef Accord and U.N. Security Council resolutions on Lebanon and the immediate election of a president.

We are all anxious to learn more about those steps.

M14 warned?? "developments require speedy steps"?

What a joke, M14 and Saniora keep reporting things like they are some news agency.

You are the gvmnt you idiots and if what you are saying is true about the frigging Iranian embassy SHUT IT DOWN YESTERDAY to begin with and tell us what other CONCRETE steps you have started to take NOW.

AK, I don't think it'll "be too late soon" to stem the Hezbo state, I think it's already too late.

Indeed, we're all anxious to know about those steps. Just as Hezb' will be naive fools to expect their latest search for victory to be easy, I fear we'd be deluded if we expects lambs to turn into lions.

Then again, I hope to be deluded; those spineless morons are the only thing standing between civil war and the rule of law.

Jeha, by now I don't think there would be a civil war anymore... at least not as bloody as the last. Just imagine: a few days/weeks of heavy turmoil, Saniora gets sacked and is replaced by a pro-HA or full-HA cabinet/military junta (with a happy smile of Assad, an army officer and an retired army officer) - everything in the name of keeping things under control - and presto, hezboland is for real and LBC will start showing all old farfour episodes for the delight of the Lebanese kids...

"Then again, I hope to be deluded;"
Count me in. I'm preparing myself with stronger anxiolytics for those "concrete steps".

The only step that is going to be required to stop HA from taking over the country is a military one, every body knows that except M14 for some reason.

Due to the heavy HA involvement in executing Iran’s orders to provide the logistical support and training to the Sader thugs in Iraq, HA has placed itself in the crosshairs of the US national interests. This should be good enough leverage for the Lebanese Government to step in and take action on the ground against HA, while enjoying the much needed military support from the US to take these guys on.

I know no one want a war, but HA is not going to give up and go away through any political dialogue, M14 needs to understand that and stop this nonsense crap they keep repeating about war is not an option. War never stopped in Lebanon, as a matter of fact Lebanon has been in an internal war since the 60’s, it never stopped.

Heh. I guess I don't really need to continue that argument about partition...HA is proving my point for me everyday. They've essentially instituted a defacto partition. Either Lebanon (the "other" Lebanon, that is) fights back, or it gets swallowed up.

And no, "launching investigations" does not constitute "fighting back".

Are Hizballah stupid?
1) Who is going to lend money to a Lebanon led by HA?
2) Are the gulf Arabs going to come to Lebanon or invest there with HA in charge? No.
3) Will the Aounist accept an islamic state? No.

I do not know what Hizballah plans are, but they are not planning on taking over. It seems to me that they want to be independent of the Lebanese government and that is it.

1) Iran
2) HA doesn't care.
3) HA doesn't care.

Re: e...BV +1
Plus

1)Iran
2)Who cares...They are not preparing a state only a canton to fight and fight and terrorise...
3)Who are Aounists?? We'll see on Wednesday!!!

I've been a vacation for a week...it was relaxing and today I had my laugh with the village idiot orangebutt's "recitation"...

BV and Danny,

Iran can't possibly lend Lebanon as much money as the international community.

HA cares about at least the Shia in Lebanon. Why would they want to flush the Lebanese economy down the toilet? A parasite does not kill its host, and HA are a great parasite (I am referring here to HA as an organization and absolutely not to the Shia in Lebanon). They will not make the mistake of taking over Lebanon.

The developments in Lebanon are not encouraging. That much is clear. But to use that as a pretext to declare that HA is just about to swallow the rest of the country is ridiculous. Of course they would like to transform the country into a theocracy connected to Iran but that does not mean that this is inevitable. The fact of the matter is that HA cannot would not want to have a state where 60% of the residents, and maybe more, are opposed to their project. HA cannot ultimately succeed unless the Lebanese are willing to close rank with it. But if you believe like I do that the majority of the Lebanese are not supporters of the HA project then you have to conclude that HA will not become the ultimate victors and rulers of the country.

My concern, as I have stated it many times before, is not the fear that HA will win but that the current group of happless politicians will interpret their ability to survive as a mandate to continue business as usual.

Democracy and modernity seem to have taken hold all throughout the world. North America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Many parts of Asia and to some extent Russia and some parts of Africa. MENA, however, is still ruled by dictators, fanaticsand feudal lords. This will not continue. It must change. We will eventually have our own "annus mirablus". That is how history unfolds and that is how it will continue to unfold. My sense of historical developments tells me that the change all throught the ME is coming and I hope that Lebanon will be one of the first places where democracy and liberty will take hold. Yes it appears that the Cedar revolution was born still, traditional politicians have coopted it but the direct and indirect interest of the Arab regimes to prevent Iran from declaring a Hamas kind of a victory in Lebanon will bring about a reestablishment of the old status quo which will develop into a real democracy and modernity if we the peole push the leaders in that direction. I will even predict that the modern Lebanon, when and if it becomes a reality, will spread and influence events in all of the other Arab countries.. We are living in interesting times and that is why we canno, we must not throw in the towel. We have a moral obligation to stand up and be counted.

"It must change. We will eventually have our own "annus mirablus"[sic]."

Dunno Gus,

Betting on bad news and catastrophes in the middle east still seems to be the winning no-brainer bet.

Ghassan,
The problem in the Arab world is that you need two miracles in a row. First you need the dictators to go, and then you need the people to accept real democracy. That can't happen. You can't even get the Lebanese to agree to one person one vote. The only alternative to the Syrian regime is the Muslim Brotherhood. Ditto Egypt. Ditto Jordan. I don't know if there is an alterantive to the Saudi royal family except Al-Qaida.

You can expect one miracle in the middle east. But two in a row is too much.

Unless the government takes bold steps to curb HA's rape of the state, all will be lost. What is happening is nothing more than just the plain hijacking of an entire nation..and it is being done with arrogance and impunity. The government can't afford to take partial decisions but must be decisive and act swiftly. It must use all the means at its disposal and be ready for confrontation. Truth is no one wants conflict, but when you're forced to take action to save yourself and others from their own madness, you must do what it takes or the entire country will be lost. No one else will fight for the country, HA is a danger to Lebanon and and must be contained. There is simply no other solution.

VOR. Agreed.

Finally. The government does SOMETHING:

The Lebanese government approved after a marathon meeting on Tuesday to raise the minimum wage to 500,000. It also decided to remove airport security chief Gen. Wafik Shqeir over his alleged links to Hizbullah.
The cabinet also labeled "illegal and unconstitutional" a private communication network set up by Hizbullah. (Naharnet)

Was that so freaking hard? Firing a guy who's loyalties are not to the state?

Now let's hope they do more of this. The state institutions must be purged (legally, of course) of all those who's loyalties are suspect, or who act outside the law. (I know that pretty much means everyone, including M14 guys, and I'm asking too much, but one can dream...)

Those fears are shared by all LEBANESE living localy. Hizballah is trying to take over the country, and has been since day one. I have maintained from the start that people who are brainwashed, born, raised and fed on the idea of Dawlat Al Faqih cannot change.
Unlike Mr. Ghassan Karam, I do not have the slitest doubt that Hassouna (thinking that he is divine and has God on his side) is not in the process of taking over the country. Moreover if he succeeds (and I hope not) you will be surprised as to which state will recognize Hezbullastan.
Do not expect anything out of M14 morons (and that includes ALL of them, no one can stop this evil project but us the people. Say no to "la ghaleb wa la maghloub", say no to "Tawlet al Hiwar", and brace yourselves for another war might be closer than you think; consider revising your personal arms policy.
I for once will say it bluntly when I hear the word Hezollah I automatically think Shia , and I do not apologize for that.

"consider revising your personal arms policy"...

No need to; when shit hits the fan, the local zaim would be providing us the stuff for free. Save your money on beer.

Siniora, Hezbollah Wage Ad War to Win Hearts, Minds in Lebanon

Abilama,
I don't know what Aoun is doing, no one can make sense of his rationale, but he is digging his own grave with his profesed love for the hizb. No wonder Murr did not want anything to do with him anymore. He's simply lost his mind! The FPM program which shares nothing with the hizb ambitions has taken a major hit b/c of the general's irrational decision to embrace the sayyed. Perhaps he was a mole all along as your article suggests.

I agree with you Andre. Good analysis.

Saying "Zioniss want to divide the region into religious states" is absurd. The Jews may want a nation, but it is in large part due to 1000 years of dhmimmitude imposed by the Islamic nations in which they lived. Lets not forget the violently anti-Jewish expulsions of 1948, and the multiple "everybody on the Jew" wars on Israel. To make this absurd claim is classic blaming the victim.
