26 dead so far

26 civilians have died so far in Lebanon, according to al-Jazeera. LBC is reporting that ten belonged to one family. My family told me over the telephone that they are completely cut off from Beirut. They live south of Beirut, and they could see the Israeli jets bomb the airport runway. More than 10 bridges have been reportedly destroyed. There are unconfirmed reports the tunnels that go through the airport were destroyed as well.

The Rafik Hariri International Airport is closed. Lebanon's only link to the world is now through... Syria.

Unfortunately for the good people in Lebanon, it wasn't an attack that came from Syria, it came from Lebanon. Hizbullah exists and operates out of Lebanon. It's part of the government. So long as Lebanon accepts Hizbullah and Nasrallah as legitimate, it is responsible for their actions. Even if every single one of Nasrallah's Katyushas hit a meaningful target, it still wouldn't help. What is Lebanon going to do about Israeli jet fighters??? Lebanon's airforce consists of 30 outdated helicopters. And fighting back would only make things worse anyway. The only solution for Lebanon to have a future is to immediately BAN Hizbullah as a terrorist organization, do everything in their means to convince Israel they will help find the kidnapped soldiers, arrest Nasrallah and collect Hizbullah's arms, stop worrying about the Shebaa farms, because they aren't going to be farmed for a long time unless Lebanon decides it wants to make friends with it's neighbor it just attacked very soon. So much for the tourist season? So much for Lebanon :(.

Is this a nightmare we are living through? Is this what happens when the mad people run the asylum? When would the rest of us develop the courage to do something about this madness? Where are the demands for HA to hand back the kidnapped soldiers, to disarm and to stop acting on behalf of all the Lebanese.

Nasrallah is a delusional hooligan who preaches hatred and death. I have often wondered how can a man of the cloth have so little respect for the sacredness of life? Why Hez's kidnapping attack not legitimate act of war:

Absurdly, despite Israel's withdrawal to the international borders with Lebanon and Gaza, much of the international community still sees the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers as a legitimate act of war: Just as Israel holds Palestinian and Lebanese prisoners, so Hamas and Hezbollah now hold Israeli prisoners. One difference, though, is that inmates in Israeli jails receive visits from family and Red Cross representatives, while Israeli prisoners in Gaza and Lebanon disappear into oblivion. Like Israeli pilot Ron Arad, who was captured by Hezbollah 20 years ago, then sold to Iran, and whose fate has never been determined. That is one reason why Israelis are so maddened by the kidnapping of their soldiers.

Another reason is the nature of the crimes committed by the prisoners whose release is being demanded by Hezbollah and Hamas. One of them is Samir Kuntar, a PLO terrorist who in 1979 broke into an apartment in the northern Israeli town of Nahariya, took a father and child hostage, and smashed the child's head against a rock. In the Palestinian Authority, Kuntar is considered a hero, a role model for Palestinian children.
